Learn Hypnosis Now A Short Guide
Anyone who wants to learn hypnosis now needs to realize before they begin that it may take a
little time and effort.
Almost people can learn how to hypnotize other people or to use self hypnosis, but it
hasn't always been easy.
Fortunately that's changed today. The hypnosis training material and techniques
available it's easier than it's ever been to master hypnosis.
But it still takes time and practice.
Whether you are interested in learning hypnosis now to quit smoking or lose weight (two common
reasons) or just want to do general hypnosis, here is what you need to know.
Start With The End In Mind
It's always good to have a specific goal when you take on a new project and it's no different in
learning hypnosis. Get clear in your mind why you want to acquire this skill and how you intend to use
it.
Hypnosis can help with a number of different things. Some are problem specific, such as
helping people to stop smoking to lose weight, to deal with stresses, to improve self esteem, etc.
Psychologists, physicians, clinicians will have different goals.
Defining your goals and intent before you begin will help you find the right training method for
your purposes.
Is Hypnosis Dangerous?

People who are just learning about hypnosis sometimes wonder if it is dangerous.
No, hypnosis is not dangerous for the most part. Nobody can force anyone to do
anything they're really opposed to under hypnosis and the old movie theme of somebody getting stuck in a hypnotic
trance just doesn't happen.
You do need to be careful not to put your subject at risk physically while they're in a
deep trance. I've heard of one stage hypnotists that had a problem when he told a person in a trance to go
back to their seat and they stepped straight off the stage instead of using the stairs.
Obviously you want to avoid something like that.
How Learn To Hypnotize

In traditional (sometimes called directive) hypnosis, there's a set up. The subject
expects to be hypnotized.
The hypnotist set the scene so that the subject feels calm and relaxed. The clichés are
low lights and calming music.
The hypnotist then begins talking to induce a trance.
Most beginners will use a script they learn from whatever course they're taking. With more
experience they become adept at judging the subject's response and adjusting accordingly. This is much more
effective, but is a skill that takes practice to acquire.
Once the subject is in a trance their subconscious mind is open to accept suggestions to help
them deal with whatever issues they have.
Modern Hypnotism
The method I just described is the older form of hypnotism. More recent techniques
are, in my opinion, even more powerful. If you want to learn hypnotism, I think you'll find the approaches
I'm about to describe more worthy of your time and effort.
And if you learn these, the older direct methods will be easy to pick up.
With the old method, not everybody can be hypnotized. The newer approaches can
achieve 100% effectiveness. I won't go into great detail here, but it takes advantage of the realization that
we all slip in and out of "trance" every day.
If you've every found yourself daydreaming and then "snapping out of it" to realize that
you had lost track of your immediate surroundings for some period of time, you were in a trance.
Another example most of us have experienced is driving a car (a complex task) and arriving at
our destination with no memory of the drive. We were caught up in the interior world of our thoughts and
drove the car on "autopilot".
Again, this is an example of the fact that we all enter into one form of trance or another all
the time.
Indirect hypnotic techniques take advantage of this natural tendency to go into trance.
Practitioners, in essence, give people a gentle nudge to go in a direction they're already heading.
Aside from the fact that everyone can be hypnotized with this approach, another advantage is
that no special set up is required and the subject doesn't even have to be aware of what's going on. This
put's a considerable responsibility on the hypnotist to be ethical and only act with the subjects best interest in
mind.
Types of Indirect Hypnosis
This type of hypnosis has several sub-types and you may hear terms like Ericksonian
Hypnosis or NLP Hypnosis or
some others. There are any number of courses available to help you learn them and like
with anything some are better than others.
How To Learn Indirect Hypnosis
I've made a bit of a hobby of checking out courses on hypnosis. I've also been to two
different week-long clinical training courses and took a $3000 (OK - it was only $2995) DVD home study
course.
After spending that kind of money, it was easy to spend to get relatively inexpensive books and
CDs and DVDs and courses to see how they compared to the more expensive trainings.
The Best Way
To begin, I have to say that the best way to learn hypnosis if you can afford the time and
money is to attend a training program.
There's nothing like working with an experienced instructor and being evaluated as you apply the
techniques you're learning (at the seminars I went to we took turns hypnotizing each other in addition to seeing
lots of live demonstrations).
Most people will develop a good degree of competency in just a few days if they go to an intense
training.
What's Best For Most People
Having said that, I don't think going to multi day live seminar is best first step for most
people.
It is expensive both in terms of time and money and most people really don't need that level of
intensity. And it doesn't obviate the need for ongoing practice when you come home, so it doesn't save as
much time as it first appears to.
The great thing about the world today is so much information is available in so many
forms. Not all the courses are excellent, but some are. I would estimate that with the right course,
you can get 80-90% of the benefit of a live seminar at a fraction of the cost.
I'll suggest some courses in a moment. I think a good way to go is to get course or a home
study program. It may be all you need to attain your goals. If so, great.
If you find you want to delve further into hypnotism, now you can look into attending an
intermediate live training. It's much more beneficial to get live coaching after you've learned the basics on
your own and now are ready for more advanced material.
Now about those hypnosis courses...
As I said, I've bought a lot a training material just to see what they were like. I figure
that every instructor has their own way of doing things and their own approach and if I learned one new thing or
one better way of doing things it would be worth it.
I'm pleased to report that most courses are pretty good or at least OK. A few are
truly excellent. I only found one that I really didn't like.
In part, the best course for you will depend on why you want to learn hypnosis (as I said
before, start with the end in mind). Also each instructor has their own style and one may be a better fit for
you than another.
I review the courses I consider to be the best on another page. But if you just want to
get more info and find out what these "best-practice" hypnosis courses can do for you, check out
the links below.

BTW - I only recommend courses that come with a rock solid money-back
guarantee.
These courses are great, but not every course can be the right "fit" for every person. The
only way to find out is to try the material. I've found that the best publishers have confidence in
their material and don't hesitate to offer a guarantee.
So if one of these trainings appeals to you, try it - there's no downside.
