The first step in stopping to smoke is to decide that you want to. 

 

Obviously that alone isn’t enough or there would be very few smokers to today.  The difficulty comes up not only because smoking is a habit, but because the nicotine in the cigarettes is addictive.  If someone suddenly withdraws from nicotine they’ll suffer physical symptoms.

Now the truth is this period only lasts a few days, but they can be a tough two days. 

The psychological dependency can go on even longer.  Like any other habit, breaking the smoking habit does take time.

Self hypnosis helps both ease the physical withdrawal and reworking your habit into a healthful one.

As always, self hypnosis works by giving us a way to directly influence our own subconscious.  When we use self hypnosis to quit smoking, we can change our image of ourselves to one that’s smoke-free.

We also can mentally rehearse new actions and have the same effect as if we actually did them.  This paves the way for our starting new behaviors in our everyday life.

For example, while in a light self hypnotic trance we might imagine ourselves enjoying our morning coffee even more without a cigarette.  If we tend to smoke while we’re on the phone, we might imagine doodling or chewing gum or something else while we talk on the phone.

Again, the hypnotic trance makes this mental rehearsal and substitution very effective.
